Franciscan University Presents (FUP). Below are 12 segments of a 55 minute discussion among guest, Fr. Robert Spitzer and a panel of three, including Dr. Scott Hahn and Dr. Regis Martin, Professors of Theology and host, Michael Hernon, VP of Advancement at Franciscan University in Steubenville , OH. Fr. Spitzer has had a rewarding career in teaching including President of Gonzaga University where he was awarded the University’s highest honor, the Desmet Medal (2009). His academic specialties are (1) Philosophy of Science, (2) metaphysics, particularly the theory of time and philosophy of God, and (3) organizational ethics and its relationship to personal and cultural transformation.

Born in Honolulu on May 6, 1952, he became an ordained Catholic Priest in the Jesuit order on June 11, 1983 and took final vows April 4, 1992. He is the current President of the Magis Center of Faith and Reason in Irvine, CA (www.magisreasonfaith.org) and the Spitzer Center (www.spitzercenter.org ) While viewing, you may notice that Father has a sight issue - he has been going blind for 6-7 years but his brilliant mind and ability to explain complex topics is remarkable and a true gift from God.

Fr. Spitzer has published various books, including “Finding Personal Happiness” and has also published many scholarly articles in journals, written an online "Encyclopedia of Reason and Faith" which responds to questions about the evidence of God, Creation, and the transmateriality of human consciousness as well as questions concerning the historicity of Jesus.

He has appeared in various series on EWTN over the years, most recently “Fr. Spitzer’s Universe” which is aired as a dialogue between Host, CEO Doug Keck from the EWTN Studios in Irondale, AL and Fr. Spitzer at the Magis Center via EWTN’s Studio in Orange County, CA. It includes a substantial Q & A component wherein viewer emails are addressed.
